Online ShoppingOnline and in-store shopping differentiate in various ways. However, they both are convenient ways to shop. I believe that shopping preferences change depending on a person’s situation. I noticed that many people are starting to prefer online shopping more than in-store shopping for smaller and more impulsive items. Online shopping is most convenient for individuals that don’t have time to go to the store. If you’re busy with an online job or online classes then online shopping can sometimes be more convenient. It’s also convenient since you don’t have to drive, catch the bus, wait in a long line, or deal with not being able to find an item. All you have to do is type in the item you’re looking for and it’s there. Once you find the item, you can order it at any time because online stores never close. When you’re looking for the best price, it requires research. The best price is more often found online, but not always. Online merchants will sometimes sell you an item for double the retail price. When the price isn’t doubled, it may be the same price plus shipping costs. Therefore, you still won’t have the best price. This item could possibly be on sale in retail stores. In-store shopping can be most convenient for those who are rarely at home and don’t have time to compare prices. In-store shopping can also be a lot quicker since you don’t have to worry about shipping. In-store shopping can give you a better insight into the product you are purchasing. Sales associates can speak to pros and cons of particular pieces and assist in finding the right item for you. Online reviews are the only type of insight you can get shopping strictly online and unfortunately the majority of users are quick to post a negative review and don’t always share the good experiences. Thus only giving you half of the story. I haven’t had nearly as many disappointments from in-store purchases as I did from online purchases. I’ve had the most disappointments with shipping. I’ve had experiences with sellers taking extremely long to finally ship an item. There were times when I never even received the item I ordered. I’ve also received broken items, the wrong item, and items that weren’t as described. In the store you can actually see the item, but you have to trust a picture when shopping online. In today’s technology based environment. I recommend a balance of both online and in-store shopping experiences for all furniture purchases. Research your items, prices and locations online. Narrow down your selections to save time. Visit the stores to try before you buy. This will help to ensure your selection not only looks great, but feels right as well. After all, most of the furniture we buy is to use, not just look at. It has to be both functional and fashionable. — Surplus Manager, Kitchener Ontario
