Is there anything more stressful than moving! Moving from apartment to apartment or house to house can be very difficult regardless of where you live. Summertime is one of the most popular times to move, and you can bet that there will be tons of people trying to move before the end of the summer this August.  Don’t let yourself get too stressed about your next move.  Follow these tips to help the process go as smoothly as possible. Moving Furniture Throw away while you pack: If you really want to get a grasp of the sheer amount of things you own, pack up your home for a move.  When some people pack, they try to put as much stuff in boxes as possible as fast as they can.  That can be a fast way to pack, but it really isn’t the most efficient.  If you want to make this move easy, make sure you’re throwing away things as you pack.  It’s very likely that you’ve accumulated a lot of things over the years, and moving gives you the perfect opportunity to get rid of some useless clutter.  Get rid of old clothes, and throw away some of the old furniture you’ve been hanging onto “just in case.”  Remember, don’t stress too much about throwing things away.  You’ll be able to find a Surplus Warehouse or an appliance store to replace anything you get rid of. Have a shredder ready: When you’re packing up your house, it’s likely that you’re going to find a lot of old mail.  Some people find that it’s easy to have a shredder on hand when they’re moving so that they can quickly shred documents that they don’t need.  Don’t make the mistake of waiting until you get to the news house to shred papers.  Those papers could get lost during the move, and your personal information could be stolen.  Shred all of your old bank and credit card statements, and anything with personal information. Find cheap boxes: Boxes are something that are essential for every move, but are usually forgotten about until the last minute.  The few old crumbling cardboard boxes you have in your basement won’t be enough to handle moving your house.  Cardboard boxes can be expensive to purchase, so if you want to save money go to a few grocery stories.  They always have boxes that they’re willing to get rid of, and they’re more than sturdy enough to handle your things for a move. Mark important boxes: If you’re moving you probably have a sharpie ready to mark your boxes so that you know what is in each one.  Labeling certain boxes as “dishes” and “bedroom” can help make unpacking easier, but if you really want to make things even easier make sure you label boxes that you’re the most likely to use once you get to your new house.  Some people make the mistake of throwing important phone and laptop charges, clothes, and cleaning supplies in any old box, and they find themselves tearing boxes apart to find what they need.  Put everything you think you’re going to need immediately after the move in a box, and know where it is so that you can easily get to it.
