Surplus Furniture & Mattress Warehouse wants to make sure you get the most out of your mattress and can enjoy it for years to come. Follow these Do’s and Don’ts to ensure you are taking proper care of your mattress.
Do Use A Mattress Protector
Protect your Mattress and Your Health using a mattress protector prevents your mattress of spills and exposure to dust mites, microbes and other potential allergens. A mattress protector keeps your mattress clean, some stains on your mattress will void the warranty, purchasing a mattress protector will protect you from a denied warranty claim if something happens to your mattress.
Do Use The Appropriate Bed Frame
Be sure that you are using the proper size of bed frame and that it is meant for the mattress set you are purchasing. In general, queen and king beds require a support system with a rigid center support. Failing to use the proper support system will cause much more wear and tear and decrease the lifespan of your mattress.
Do Purchase The Set
A mattress and it’s box spring are designed to work together to maximize support and longevity of product performance. Although a box spring doesn’t show wear, they generally wear just like a mattress over time and become weaker. Using your old box spring with a new mattress will damage the mattress.
Do Rotate Your Mattress
You should turn your mattress over, rotate it from one end to the other, and flip back over (If you have a flippable mattress,) If not be sure to rotate it. Caring for your mattress on a regular basis is no different than moving your furniture in your house to change wear on your carpet in high traffic areas or rotating car tires to increase its life.
Don’t Remove Tags
The information printed on the labels provide important information about your product and how to properly care for it. It also identifies your mattress should you have a warranty claim.
Don’t Use Harsh Chemicals
Chemicals can damage your mattress. Use the tag on your mattress to see if there are any instruction first on how to clean, if not use a mild detergent and a vacuum to gently clean.
Don’t Bend Or Fold Your Mattress
When you are flipping, moving or cleaning your mattress be sure not to bend or fold it. This will stretch, damage and ruin your mattress over time and void your warranty.
Don’t Jump or Stand On Your Mattress
Jumping or standing/walking on your mattress will again, stretch, damage and ruin your mattress over time and will void your warranty.
