  1. Vacuum. Use your vacuum cleaner on upholstered furniture like your sofa, sectional or loveseat. Vacuuming fabrics with the upholstery attachments (nothing with harsh bristles.) This keeps dirt and microbial from building up and wearing into furniture over time.
  2. Spray. Don’t wash the cushion covers in the washing machine, they might shrink and no longer fit over the cushion. Instead, apply a spray-on, water-based detergent, like an upholstery-cleaning detergent or liquid soap and water. (Always spot test the product on a less noticeable area and read the labels on the furniture before applying or shopping for your cleaning agent.)
  3. Apply, wait, then wipe. Rub in the detergent evenly to avoid spots and uneven drying patterns. Then wait 5 to 10 minutes for the detergent to dissolve into the fabric. Wipe the residue away from the surface with a clean cloth. Allow the fabric to dry completely to prevent a moist environment where microorganisms can grow.
Wooden and hard furniture Disinfect hard finishes on furniture like your dinettes, coffee tables, side tables or tv stands with one of two options. Furniture with a plastic veneer is easy to clean. You can use a disinfectant spray or a disinfectant wipe. But for other types of hard finishes, you may want to opt for a mild solution such as spray bottle with 2 cups water, 1 cup white vinegar and about five drops dish soap. (Always spot test the product on a less noticeable area and read the labels on the furniture before applying or shopping for your cleaning agent.)
