The biggest challenge we face when trying to decorate a big space is how to arrange the furniture without making it look like a museum. Do bear in mind that you have to break the room into smaller areas with specific purpose.
1. Identify the main area and it's use. If you’re dealing with a social gathering spot then establishing a seating area for conversation is your goal. Gather the sofa, centre table and ottoman then select an area rug to define your perimeter. Next, arrange these pieces on and around it.
It would be helpful if your large furniture has a neutral color so you can swap accent pillows and rugs whenever you want.
2. Unused areas like a small corner or a spot under the window do not have to stay blank. You can create an intimate seating arrangement for a lounge or a reading corner.
Check out the following links for some choices for chairs and coffee tables.
3. An area against a large wall need not be left behind as well. Introducing an accent table below a piece of art or frames is one way of filling this space up.
4. Finally, light it up. Once you have established your room’s distinct areas, you are ready to introduce your layered lighting effects. This would be very helpful in setting the mood of the space you have created.
