Understanding Your Mattress Warranty

Have you ever found yourself discussing the intricacies of your mattress warranty with family members, acquaintances, or long-lost friends? Neither have we. However, it’s important to understand your mattress warranty so you can get the most out of your investment. Remember, 1/3 or your time, will be spent sleeping on your mattress. Let’s take a few minutes to discuss the differences between a Pro Rated Warranty and Non-Pro Rated Warranty as it’s essential to understanding your mattress warranty.

Pro-Rated Warranty

With a pro-rated warranty, customers are responsible for paying a certain percentage of the cost of repairing or replacing the mattress. This percentage typically gets larger as time goes by. For instance, here is a quick calculation as an example: Retail Cost of Mattress divided by the number of years in the warranty. Customers would also be responsible for any shipping or delivery fees.

Non-Pro-Rated Warranty

With a non-pro rated warranty, customers would not be responsible for paying any portion of the repair or replacement costs during the designated warranty period. Keep in mind though, customers would still be responsible for any shipping or delivery fees.

What is typically covered with a mattress warranty

This is a great question as a lot of customers aren’t sure what is covered with their mattress warranty. Let’s briefly discuss some common issues that are covered with your mattress warranty. Keep in mind though, every claim is different and follow a set of guidelines, so make sure to discuss your options with our warranty specialists.

  • Physical Defects - warranties will repair or replace your mattress in the event that your coils break or the springs pop out the side.
  • Sagging – warranties won’t cover sagging brought on by gradual wear and tear over the course of several years. However, if there is excessive sagging over 2” that occurs early on in the life of the mattress than you may be eligible for a claim.

It’s important to mention that there are some factors that will void your mattress warranty, like staining, failing to provide the proper support for your mattress (like a foundation), and failing to rotate your mattress on a frequent basis. Let’s take a few minutes to discuss the proper maintenance of your mattress.

How to maintain your Mattress

Now that we have covered some common warranty issues, it’s important to provide some information on how to properly maintain your mattress throughout the years. Here are some helpful tips for extending the life of your mattress.

  • Rotate Your Mattress Frequently - make sure you rotate the mattress every two weeks for the first three months, then every month afterwards.
  • Mattress Protector – protect your mattress from stains, dust mites, bed bugs and more with a quality mattress protector.
  • Proper Foundation – as mentioned above, make sure your mattress has the proper support. Choose from a quality box spring, adjustable base, or platform bed.
  • Avoid Jumping on the Mattress – this is a tough one, but jumping or bouncing on a mattress can cause the coils to break, or permanent indentations on the mattress surface which would not be covered by your mattress warranty.
  • Comfort takes time – it’s important to remember, it takes time for your body to conform to your mattress. Our mattresses are brand new, direct from the factory, so they will feel different than the floor models in the store. It will take a few weeks (or months) for your body to conform to the mattress.
