At Surplus Furniture, a lot of the items in store are flat packed to help with delivery and to save you money. One item that can be tricky to put together at home is the metal bed frame.

We didn’t have a lot of space in the office, so we’ve assembled a smaller display version and documented the process for you, to help make it a little easier!

Step 1

Spread out riveted head and foot bars to form a 90° angle with long side bars.

Step 1: spreading head and foot bars at a 90 degree angle

Step 2

Insert rollers or glides.

Step 3

Join both halves of head support, and both halves of foot support, according to box spring size, using the keylock assembly system.

Step 3: joining head and foot supports with the keylock assembly

Step 4

If you’ve purchased a frame with a centre support, install it from head to toe using 5/16″ x ¾″ carriage bolts, washers and nuts to attach it — without tightening yet.

Step 4: installing the centre support with carriage bolts

Step 5

Install the box spring on the bed frame. Make the final width adjustment, then tighten all the bolts.

Step 6

Install angle protectors at the extremities — this will save your walls from scuffs and marks if the bed should move. If installing a headboard, it’s recommended you use 1/4″ x 2 1/2″ screws to attach the frame to the headboard.

Step 6: installing angle protectors at the corners

And you’re done! Now just put your mattress on, and have yourself a well-deserved rest.
