Home FurnitureWhen purchasing furniture for your home, there are many things you need to take into account, but one of the most important is measuring! Depending on the width of your doorways, hallways and stairs, bringing in new furniture could be a challenge! Below is a list of steps you can follow when purchasing furniture. Make sure to make notes of your measurements to reference when you are shopping around and/or scheduling delivery! 1. Measure Your Room: Measure the length of your walls, the height from floor to ceiling and the size of your windows in the room that you wish to place your new furniture. Keep in mind to mark down where your windows and doorways are positioned on the wall. You may also need to take into account the placement of any furnace/AC vents on the floor, closets, any baseboard heating and any electrical outlets in the walls. Measure Entrance Ways2. Measure Entrance Ways: Make sure to take the measurements of any doorways that you will have to get your furniture through. Depending on the door and what kind of tools you have available, you may be able to take the door off the hinges to give yourself a little extra room, but it is always easier to avoid that! Make sure to mark down the height, width and the diagonal measurement from top corner to opposite bottom corner of your doorways. 3. Measure Hallways, Stairs and/or Elevators: Depending where your planning to keep your furniture, you may have to factor in the measurements of hallways, stairwells and/or elevators. Having to angle a long couch down a narrow hallway and then up a flight of 2 stairs may be a challenge if you have not measured it out before hand! Elevators may also have a weight limit, so it is best to check that out before as well. 4. Bring a Tape Measure: When going from store to store looking for furniture, make sure to bring your measuring tape along. This way when you find an item you like, you can measure and compare to your room measurements and know right away if it will fit. This will save you from purchasing an item that ends up being to big to fit into the spot you had intended it for!
