There is nothing better than to come home after a long day and relax in a cozy chair. However, finding that perfect chair can be a daunting task! Your new chair needs to fit into your home décor and offer comfort as well.

Lets take a look at your body first. The first thing to consider is the way you sit, your center of gravity, as well as your height and weight.

Knowing these factors will help you find the chair that fits you perfectly.

● The seat should feel soft to sit on, yet offer firm support. If it is too hard, it may become uncomfortable after sitting in it for a short time. If it sinks in too much, you may find yourself struggling to get out of it.

● The correct seat height is also very important. Most chairs are approximately 18” high but you can find higher or lower seats. If your knees are pointing up or down you will be more comfortable. It is important that your thighs are perpendicular to the ground.

● Your height will determine the depth of seat you require. A seat with greater depth will accommodate longer legs. If you are shorter or have knee issues, you will find a shallower seat more comfortable.

● A chair and a half is perfect for sharing with grand-kids and pets and are also great for lounging. If you have space constraints, a chair and a half will take the place of a loveseat.

● Lumbar support is offered by the back of your chair. If you read or watch TV in your chair you will be much more comfortable with a high backed chair, as these offer neck support.

● In turn, lower chairs are great for conversations and they also tend to make you sit up straighter.

When deciding between tight covers or loose cushions, it is good to bear in mind that cushions tend to offer more comfort and are a little cozier. A tight back tends to offer more support. You can also choose a mix with a tight back and a cushioned seat or vice versa. Additional pillows along the back can offer more support, make the seat shallower, or provide accent colours or patterns.

Mostly a matter of personal preference, as to whether or not you want a chair with arms. Arms will allow you to sit for longer periods of time and offer support when getting out of the chair. A chair without arms is usually for occasional use but if the back is curved, it can offer great support and comfort as well.

Being able to rest your arms on armrests is more relaxing. Arm rests are important in a chair that you use every day, but not in a chair that is only used occasionally or when you have visitors over.
